In reality, that camera is tiny and is barely visible unless you stoop down and look for it. The plate is still lit up at night just fine - and the light doesn't affect the camera because the bracket blocks the light from shining on the camera.įourth picture shows the same picture as the third picture but no lines drawn on the picture. In case you're wondering, the bracket does partially block the license plate light, but only slightly. The bracket is held in place using the license plate light screws, and is sandwiched between the license plate light and the bumper cover. On this picture, I drew a red line showing the outline of the installed bracket (mostly hidden above the bumper cover) and I also drew a blue line showing where the license plate light still shines down on the license plate from behind the bracket. Third picture shows the bracket and camera installed. After that, I sanded it and sprayed the bracket flat black (2 coats). The two 1/4" outside holes (for mounting the bracket to the car) are drilled and the two inside holes (for mounting the camera to the bracket) are tapped to 8-32 thread. Second picture shows the bracket cut to the shape I wanted. I cut off the length I needed, drew the cut and drill marks on the metal, then worked it until it was the shape I wanted. It started out as 1.5" wide X 3 feet long and is 1/8" thick. The pictures show some of the stages of the bracket manufacture and install.įirst picture is a diagram of the bracket. I wanted something that was hidden as much as possible, so I made the bracket that holds the camera since I couldn't find anything already made. I recently finished installing a backup camera in my 2011 Challenger.
